This year marks 20 years of the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) regulating higher education in Uganda. NCHE was established under the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act, 2001 (as amended), with the mandate to regulate the provision of higher education, advise the Government on policy matters relating to higher education in Uganda and to equate qualifications of higher education from within and outside the country. NCHE started its operations in 2003 and has since promoted accessible, quality and transformative Higher Education in Uganda.
The 20th Anniversary celebrations which started in March 2023 under the theme “20 Years of NCHE Transforming Higher Education in Uganda” culminated into grand celebrations hosted at Kololo ceremonial grounds on 12th October 2023. The Guest of Honor was H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda.(watch proceedings here)
The grand celebrations started in March 2023 with the official launch on 9th March 2023(watch proceedings here), and was followed with a Public Lecture on 11th July 2023(watch proceedings here , the Public lecture keynote address here) and the Run on 20th August 2023(watch proceedings here).
