The National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) signed a memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Research and Education Network for Uganda (RENU) formalizing the collaboration as partners in enhancing the quality and access to Higher Education through optimal utilization of Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
While signing this MoU at NCHE offices, the Executive Director Prof. Mary J. N. Okwakol, thanked RENU for providing connectivity and other technology services to support Education and Research in universities which links these national universities to the Regional and International Network, REN Ubuntunet.
She said that RENU whose humble background started in 2006 by Vice Chancellors and CEOs of Research Institutions then, aimed at harnessing ICT and this enabled collaboration among the public, private and Higher Education Institutions.
She commended RENU for recognizing NCHE’s central position as a regulator in the digital transformation of Higher Education which is aligned with NCHE’s strategic objectives under the current NCHE Strategic Plan (2021-2025). This plan intends to promote research and innovations and utilization of ICT.
The Chief Executive Officer, RENU, Mr. Nicholas Mbonimpa said that the MoU had targets onto which implementation would be measured.
He promised that RENU would work together with NCHE in accessing resources, monitoring of progress and submitting progress reports, and added that NCHE had been very supportive to them.
