The National Council for Higher Education on Thursday 26th August 2021 hosted members of the Committee of Parliament on Education and Sports at the NCHE premises.
The team led by the Chairperson Hon. John Twesigye Ntamuhira, MP Bunyaruguru County toured NCHE land and the premises and later held a meeting with the NCHE management team led by the Executive Director Prof. Mary J. N. Okwakol.
In her presentation to the Committee members, the ED hailed parliament particularly the Committee on Education and sports for supporting NCHE to deliver its mandate functions. She said there has been an increase in the resource envelope given to NCHE and attainment of a vote status which brings some financial independence.

She however requested the MPs to support the process of amending the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act to clearly define the mandate of NCHE and solve the problem of overlapping mandates, increase the government subvention to NCHE in order to recruit more staff and have a budget for the additional function of equating qualifications for political aspirants.
The MPS hailed NCHE for securing a permanent home which has saved government money from rent costs and requested NCHE to follow up on the proposals for amending the Act and give it to the MPs to acquaint themselves with the proposals.
They promised to work with NCHE as and when they are approached for any legislative input.
